In addition to supporting patients throughout pregnancy, Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine offers wonderful support for postpartum parents.

Moxibustion and Acupuncture help new parents heal and recover.

We apply the moxibustion to the entire belly area (and sometimes the lower back) to warm up the body. The moxibustion strengthens the body and boosts energy. We combine this with acupuncture to re-balance the body and facilitate healing.

Parents report feeling really good after this treatment.

Moxibustion and acupuncture are ideal any time starting at 5-7 days postpartum. Even for patients that come into the clinic months after giving birth, they often can benefit from this treatment.

Traditional East Asian Medicine offers general postpartum healing and recovery. In addition, we can use acupuncture, moxibustion, and Chinese herbal medicine (when appropriate) to address postpartum issues that may come up.

These are some of the health issues that we can address:

  • Lactation support- for optimizing lactation and treating lactation issues
  • Mood support- for low mood, depression, and anxiety
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Musculoskeletal pain- neck pain, back pain, arm pain, etc.
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Constipation and digestive issues

The acupuncture treatments offer a much-needed time for parents to get their own care and nourishment. Many new parents fall deep into sleep with the treatments and report feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

When hormones shift and the menstrual cycle resumes, some patients can initially experience intense PMS, heavy bleeding, and painful periods. Acupuncture can help balance the hormones and ease the cycles so that the cycles can normalize.
